sir Alex Ferguson is confident Dimitar Berbatov will eventually prove what a class act he is at Manchester United, as he prepares to face his old side Tottenham on Saturday night.

Ferguson eventually splashed out a club record £30.75million on Berbatov after some hard bargaining by Spurs on transfer deadline day.

Yet, despite flashes of obvious brilliance, consistency has so far eluded the 27-year-old during his stay at Old Trafford.

Indeed, some cruel pundits have likened Berbatov to another player of immense talent, Juan Sebastian Veron, who joined United for a vast sum accompanied by a major fanfare from Inter Milan, but failed to do himself justice and was offloaded to Chelsea as the Red Devils struggled to emulate past glories.
